Apple has introduced Live Activities support to Shazam, its free music discovery and identification app, starting today.
Shazam’s new Live Activities feature keeps users updated while searching for music in the background, making it especially handy for multitasking or identifying songs in other apps. The last major update to Shazam was in January, which enabled users to identify songs from other apps while using headphones.
Since acquiring Shazam in 2018, Apple has been integrating it more closely with Apple Music, including offering trials to the streaming service and syncing Shazams directly to Apple Music.
Shazam is available for free on the App Store and can be accessed through the Control Center on iPhone and iPad, via Siri commands, on the Mac, and through widgets. The latest version, 17.11, is now available.
Apple introduced the Live Activities API to third-party iPhone apps with iOS 16.1 in 2022, and many developers have since utilized this feature effectively.
