Apple is raising the price for out-of-warranty battery replacements for iPhone 16 Pro models. The cost is now $119 for the larger iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, up from $99 for the iPhone 15 models. The regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus still cost $99 for a battery replacement.
The last time Apple raised these prices was in 2022 with the iPhone 14, when the cost went from $69 to $99.
Since all new iPhones come with at least a year of AppleCare, most new buyers won’t feel this price hike right away. AppleCare+ can also be bought for extended coverage.
Under AppleCare, users can get a free battery replacement if their iPhone battery drops below 80% of its original capacity. iPhone batteries are designed to keep at least 80% capacity after 500 charge cycles, but iPhone 15 and later models are built to last 1,000 cycles.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have larger batteries with a metal shell to reduce heat, which could make them harder to replace, explaining the higher replacement cost noted by MacRumors.
For older iPhones out of warranty, battery replacement costs vary. It’s $99 for iPhone 15 and 14 models, $89 for most older models, and $69 for the iPhone SE and iPhone 8.
