Apple rolls out iOS 17.5.1, addressing Reappearing Photos Bug

Today, Apple launched iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1, minor iterations following last September’s iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 releases. These updates follow the recent introduction of iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 by just a week.

iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1 are now available for download on compatible iPhones and iPads via Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple’s release notes, these updates address an issue where deleted photos could reappear in the Photos library. This includes a fix for a rare occurrence of database corruption causing deleted photos to resurface in the library.

Following the rollout of iOS 17.5, there were numerous reports from iPhone and iPad users encountering previously deleted photos reappearing, some dating as far back as 2010. This caused confusion and concern among users. Apple’s statement clarifies that the problem stemmed from database corruption, which should be resolved with the installation of iOS 17.5.1.
