Apple’s TV app might become available on Android smartphones and tablets, as suggested by a job listing noted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Apple is in search of a senior Android software engineer to join the Apple TV app team. This engineer would take charge of developing “an application used by millions to watch and discover tv and sports,” strongly indicating Apple’s intention to extend its TV app to Android smartphones and tablets.
Introducing the Apple TV app to Android devices would offer users a more seamless access point to the Apple TV+ streaming service, eliminating the need to rely on the web-based tv.apple.com. Additionally, the app grants access to features like MLS Season Pass, a storefront for purchasing or renting movies and TV shows, and more.
While Apple already provides the TV app on Android TV devices like the Chromecast with Google TV, it has yet to extend it to the broader Android platform. Presently, Apple offers only a select few apps on Android phones, such as Apple Music, Move to iOS, and a Beats app.
The inclusion of Android would expand the reach of Apple’s TV app, which is currently available across numerous platforms including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Roku and Amazon Fire TV streaming sticks, select smart TVs, and more. As for the timeline of this expansion or whether development has commenced, specifics remain unclear.
