According to “Instant Digital,” a Weibo leaker, the iPhone 16 Pro might boast a display that’s up to 20% brighter for standard SDR content.
In a recent Weibo post, the user suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro is set to deliver up to 1,200 nits of typical SDR brightness, marking a 20% boost from current models. However, peak HDR brightness is purportedly unchanged at 1,600 nits.
Compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro, which saw a substantial rise in HDR brightness by up to 400 nits, the typical SDR brightness of the iPhone series has remained at 1,000 nits since the debut of the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021. Given that typical SDR brightness is utilized in most scenarios, a 20% enhancement in standard brightness would represent a notable improvement.
While Instant Digital’s reliability with Apple rumors varies, they have accurately predicted significant details in the past, such as the introduction of the Yellow iPhone 14 in 2023, the frosted back glass design for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, minor updates for the Apple Watch Series 9, spatial video capture capability on the iPhone 15 Pro, landscape front-facing cameras on the new iPad Air and iPad Pro, and the option for a nano-texture display on the iPad Pro.
The anticipated iPhone 16 lineup is slated for its usual fall release, featuring Pro models with larger screens, a novel “Capture” button, the A18 chip, and other enhancements.
