A rumor circulating in China claims that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe charging.
Currently, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models can achieve up to 27W peak charging speeds with a compatible USB-C power adapter, while Apple’s official MagSafe chargers and those from authorized third parties can wirelessly charge the iPhone 15 models at up to 15W. All four iPhone 15 models can reach 50% charge in about 30 minutes using a 20W or higher power adapter, similar to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models.
According to ITHome, this is expected to change for the Pro models in Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 lineup, which are rumored to support 40W wired and 20W wireless charging to “balance and improve the problem of increasing charging time caused by the increase in battery capacity.”
This is related to another rumor that, except for the iPhone 16 Plus, models in Apple’s iPhone 16 series will have larger batteries than their predecessors.
It’s unclear why the rumor is resurfacing in Asia, but with Apple only two months away from unveiling its new flagship devices, there might be some truth to it. The iPhone 16 series is expected to be released around mid-September.
