There are rumors about big camera changes for the iPhone 16 Pro series. A leaker claims the ultra-wide camera will be upgraded to 48 megapixels, and the telephoto zoom will get an upgrade.
Apple often updates its iPhone cameras, like the Tetraprism lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. New rumors say more changes are coming, and a recent post by leaker “Baby Sauce” on Weibo supports this.
The post mentions the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. It says the ultra-wide camera will be upgraded to 48 megapixels, making it the second 48-megapixel camera on the back. The telephoto camera would then be the only one with a 12-megapixel sensor.
Both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to get the ultra-wide camera upgrade. The iPhone 16 Pro is also rumored to get a 5x zoom, matching the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s zoom.
However, the iPhone 16 Pro Max won’t have any changes to its telephoto zoom level.
The leaker doesn’t have a strong track record with Apple leaks. Their last notable post was images of cases for a possible iPhone SE 4.
Other sources have also discussed these camera changes. Another leaker, “Setsuna Digital,” and several analysts mentioned the 48-megapixel sensor upgrade in 2023. Analysts also speculated that the Tetraprism lens might be used in the Pro model.
