A new report says that iPhone 16 production started in June and has now increased to ensure enough supply for a mid-September launch. After initial production began in June and expanded to India in July, full-scale manufacturing is now underway. Both Samsung Display and LG Display have ramped up their production to meet Apple’s expected September release.
Apple plans to make 90 million iPhone 16 units, with 120 million OLED screens expected to be produced in 2024. Samsung Display is set to produce 80 million of these, while LG Display will make 43 million, which is over 10 million more than it made for the iPhone 15.
However, these numbers could change because a third supplier, BOE, is facing delays in getting approval for its iPhone 16 screens. Last year, LG Display had similar delays, leading Apple to order more from Samsung.
This is typically when we hear about display production orders for a mid-September release. Reports suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro screens will be bigger than those on the iPhone 15, with the Pro Max at 6.9 inches and the Pro at 6.3 inches. The non-Pro models will stay the same size as the iPhone 15 range, with the iPhone 16 at 6.1 inches and the iPhone 16 Plus at 6.7 inches.
