Apple begins work on iOS 19, macOS 16, watchOS 12, and visionOS 3

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has already started developing iOS 19, macOS 16, watchOS 12, and visionOS 3 updates for next year.

In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman reported that Apple has officially started developing its major operating systems for 2025, with the codenames “Luck” for iOS 19, “Cheer” for macOS 16, “Nepali” for watchOS 12, and “Discovery” for visionOS 3.

Even though iOS 18, macOS 15 Sequoia, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2 have yet to be released to the public, Apple’s initiation of work on the next major software updates follows its typical schedule. This is partly because hardware products set to launch next year need software for testing, but it is currently too early to determine the features of the new operating systems.

Gurman also mentioned that the Vision Pro headset could gain Apple Intelligence as early as next year, which might align with the release of visionOS 3. Meanwhile, public beta versions of iOS 18, macOS 15 Sequoia, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2 are expected to be available next month, ahead of their official release in the fall.
