Many iPhone users are accustomed to iOS prompting them to activate Low Power Mode when their battery hits 20%. However, you can manually enable Low Power Mode anytime by navigating to Settings → Battery and toggling the switch next to Low Power Mode.
If you consistently find yourself enabling Low Power Mode late in the day, you can streamline the process by configuring it to activate automatically when your battery reaches a customized threshold. This can be achieved through the Shortcuts app, as outlined in the following steps.
Keep in mind that activating Low Power Mode reduces your iPhone’s performance and restricts certain background activities. These include manual mail fetching, disabled background app refresh, and lowered motion and brightness settings.
If you’re comfortable with these adjustments, follow the steps below to automate the setting on your iPhone.
-
Open the Shortcuts app and select the Automation tab at the bottom of the screen, then tap the + button in the top-right corner.
-
Scroll down and select Battery Level from the options.
-
Check Falls Below 50% and then drag the slider to adjust the percentage level for when Low Power Mode should be activated.
-
To ensure the automation runs in the background, toggle off the switch next to Ask Before Running, then tap Next.
-
Search for “Set Low Power Mode” and select the card from the results, then tap Next.
-
Lastly, tap Done in the top-right of the screen.
Your personal automation for “Set Low Power Mode” should now appear in the automation list and will trigger automatically once your iPhone hits the threshold you’ve chosen.
