In the past few days, Facebook users were upset because the app’s iPhone icon appeared to change to a black and blue design. However, this was just a bug, and Facebook is already fixing it.
According to Business Insider, the change was due to a “technical issue” and not a rebranding. Meta’s communications manager, Dave Arnold, said, “This was caused by a technical issue and has been resolved. People will see the fix when they update their app.”
The new icon was very different from Facebook’s usual blue and white design, and users didn’t like it. Instead of the familiar blue background with a white icon, the new design mistakenly showed a black background with a blue icon.
Although iOS 18 offers new icon theming options, like a setting that makes all Home Screen icons dark, this Facebook bug also affected people using iOS 17. Some iOS 18 users even saw a version of the Facebook icon with a white background and blue logo. We’ll have to wait and see if these icons return when Facebook updates its app for iOS 18 next month.
You can now download the latest version of the Facebook app with the corrected icon from the App Store. Problem solved, so we can all relax and enjoy our long weekend.
