iOS 18 Photos App Adds Utilities Categories for QR Codes, Receipts, Illustrations, and More

Apple’s brand new Photos app in iOS 18 ditches the separate Library and For You sections. Instead, it offers a streamlined, all-in-one view. This update also includes a revamped “Collections” section, making it much simpler to search for specific kinds of photos within your library.

Major overhaul for Photos in iOS 18!

  • Goodbye separate sections:

The familiar Library and For You sections are replaced with a unified view for a smoother browsing experience.

  • Finding photos just got easier:

The revamped “Utilities” section now goes beyond hidden photos, deleted items, and duplicates. It offers dedicated categories for Receipts, Handwriting, Illustrations, QR Codes, and more.

  • Locate specific photos in a flash:

Even though searching for things like receipts was possible before, the dedicated categories make them instantly accessible.

  • New “Animated” category:

This addition in the “Media Types” section might be a hint towards upcoming image generation features in iOS 18’s “Apple Intelligence” suite.

  • Quick access to favorites:

The new “Pinned Collections” section lets you customize what you see first. Pin frequently used collections like Videos, Favorites, Screenshots, or Selfies for easy access.

  • These changes are everywhere

Enjoy the new Photos experience on your iPhone (iOS 18), iPad (iPadOS 18), and Mac (macOS Sequoia).

In simpler terms, Apple made finding and managing your photos on iPhone, iPad, and Mac a whole lot easier in iOS 18
