The Tetraprism lens used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be included in more models for the iPhone 16 generation, according to a report confirming increased orders for the component. Currently, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the only model with the Tetraprism lens, offering a 5x optical zoom compared to the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3x zoom.
Numerous rumors have suggested that Apple will extend the lens system to more models in the iPhone 16 lineup, and a recent report seems to confirm this. Industry sources from DigiTimes Asia indicate that Apple is preparing to expand the use of periscope lenses, adding Genius Electronic Optical as a supplier alongside the existing supplier, Largan Precision.
Repeated rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro will gain the lens, with the Pro Max continuing to use it. This would make the enhanced zoom feature exclusive to the Pro lineup, excluding the standard models.
Other rumors suggest the Pro models will gain a 48-megapixel sensor for the ultra-wide camera, replacing the current 12-megapixel sensor. Additionally, new coatings may reduce lens flare, and thinner lenses could reduce weight and minimize the camera bump.
