Leak Reveals Apple's 'Home Accessory' Development

Code found on Apple’s backend by MacRumors confirms that Apple is developing a long-rumored home accessory alongside the HomePod and Apple TV.

The code includes a reference to a device with the identifier “HomeAccessory17,1,” a new category similar to the HomePod’s “AudioAccessory” identifier. The “17,1” suggests this device might feature Apple’s upcoming A18 chip, which will also be used in the iPhone 16 models later this year. With the A18 chip, the HomeAccessory would have the capability for Apple Intelligence.

The code further indicates that this “home accessory” will run a variant of tvOS, similar to the HomePod. Earlier this year, iCommunityPakistan discovered evidence of Apple’s work on homeOS, which might be the firmware for this device.

Additionally, the code references two unreleased Apple TV models, identified as AppleTV14,4 and AppleTV14,5. Rumors suggest an updated Apple TV could launch in 2024.

Apple is expected to announce new iPhones, iPads, and possibly other products in September.
