According to The Elec, LG Display will likely be the backup supplier for the OLED screens on next year’s fourth-generation iPhone SE models.
The fourth-generation iPhone SE is rumored to have a design similar to the iPhone 14, featuring an OLED display, Face ID instead of Touch ID, a USB-C port, an Action button, and a full-screen look without a Home Button. The display size is expected to increase from 4.7 inches to 6.06 inches and use OLED for the first time.
BOE will be the main supplier of the OLED panels, with LG Display as the backup supplier, according to today’s report. In the past, Apple has relied only on China-based BOE for the LCD panels of the iPhone SE. However, BOE has had issues with producing OLED panels, so Apple is bringing in LG Display as a backup to ensure a steady supply.
The prices for the iPhone SE 4 panels are said to be much lower than those for the iPhone 15 because they will use older parts from the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, eliminating the need for new research and development investments. Display manufacturers have reportedly been bidding to supply the panels since at least last August. Mass production is expected to start in October this year, with the iPhone SE 4 set to be released in spring 2025.
