WhatsApp for iOS now supports Passkeys

Today, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, announced the rollout of passkey support on iOS. This feature enables users to log in to their accounts using Face ID, Touch ID, or their device passcode.

Passkeys replace traditional passwords and enhance security by requiring device authentication, preventing online attacks like phishing. Since there’s no actual password or interceptable SMS or code with passkeys, they offer increased protection.

Moreover, passkeys offer convenience with quick Face ID or Touch ID scans for logins instead of typing passwords. To enable WhatsApp passkeys, go to app settings, select “Account,” and tap “Passkeys.”

Apple has backed passkeys since 2022, supporting them on iOS 16 and later, iPadOS 16 and later, and macOS Ventura and later. Major companies adopting passkeys include X (formerly Twitter), Google, TikTok, PayPal, Best Buy, Microsoft, PlayStation, and eBay.
