Apple’s latest operating systems—iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia—now allow users to create and manage Reminders directly from the built-in Calendar app. Announced at the annual WWDC on Monday, this integration means Reminders will be visible within Calendar.
This enhanced integration addresses the longstanding issue of switching between the two apps to manage related tasks. The upgrade is expected to save users time and boost productivity.
Despite this new functionality within the Calendar app, the standalone Reminders app remains available, providing multiple ways to view, manage, and create reminders for added convenience.
In iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, tapping and holding on a specific time in the Calendar app allows users to choose between creating a Calendar event or a reminder. When creating a reminder, users can select from various options.
Users can set priority levels, add notes, and choose the lists for their reminders. The integration also allows marking reminders as completed directly within Calendar.
When a reminder with a date and time is created in Reminders, it appears in the built-in Calendar app, displayed alongside events, sorted by their respective times and dates. For example, a reminder set for 2 PM and a Calendar event for 3 PM on the same day will place the reminder above the event, providing users with a comprehensive overview of their schedule.
Flexibits’ Fantastical, a third-party app, has offered similar features with additional options for years. While Apple’s integration of Calendar and Reminders is a logical and welcome update, it is unlikely to significantly impact the use of third-party apps.
This integration was announced alongside various other OS features and improvements at WWDC. Apple introduced a new universal Calculator app with Math Notes, enhanced Siri capabilities, and on-device image generation powered by Apple Intelligence.
